Disappointing Products

I usually do enough research before I purchase any product, so usually there aren’t a lot of disappointing products especially when it comes to makeups. I can make it work one way or another. But once in a while the sales got me or what works for others just doesn’t work for me. So here we go, let’s see if we’ve got the same opinion!

Bioderma Micellar Water

The Bioderma Micellar Water is a product that I absolutely hate. I know everyone raves about it and if you love it, I’m so sorry. This product just doesn’t do a thing for me. It doesn’t take off mascara at all and I have to go thru my face multiple times to take off one layer of foundation. It also dries out my skin and leaves a weird texture on my face. I always end up having to cleanse my face again. Eh.

The second disappointing product is Lush’s Queen Bee. I really like Lush and their shampoo bars, so when the sales talked to me about this, I was hooked. It’s supposed to nourish hair while keeping my wavy hair nice and controlling flyaways. The biggest problem I have with it is it weighs my hair down and makes my hair kinda greasy even before noon. So now I have a big chunk of this left just sitting here staring at me.

PHYTO Paris ultra repairing mask

Speaking of hair products, I think I’ve mentioned that I like to use hair masks as my daily conditioner. I had really high hopes for this mask as everyone raves about Photy Paris. But I just don’t find this working for my hair. Not only does it not make my hair soft and smooth, it leaves residues on my hair and won’t wash away. When my hair dries, it feels tacky and like I have put gel or moose on it. Does it happen to you if you have used it? I would really like to know how you use it if it works for you.

Aesop Amazing Face Cleanser

This Aesop cleanser is not a bad product, it is very gentle. I think it’s be great for sensitive skin, but it’s “too” gentle for me. I use it mainly as a morning cleanser to remove the residue of the skincare from the night before and any exceed oil. However, it is not strong enough to cleanse the pores. Sometimes I use it to clean my face at night and I do notice that my face isn’t as smooth and the pores are as clean. I read a lot of reviews online that say it helps with acne skin. I don’t have acne problem but I do have one or two pimples here and there. However, I don’t feel like it’s doing any difference to my skin. So for this price, I’d expect it to do more than just “gently clean your skin”.

Estee Lauder Double wear mascara

I am very picky about mascaras. A lot of the mascaras do a great job in volumizing and lengthening, however, they weigh my lashes down. But this mascara doesn’t do anything, It only makes my lashes more black. There’s no volume, length. or curl added to my lashes. It also smudges. Good thing I didn’t get a full size.

NYX Colored Felt Tip Liner

I love NXY’s products. I had really high hopes on this gorgeous royal blue colour. It’s supposed to give a vivid blue with this felt-tip brush. However I could only get 2 uses out of it because after the second time, the colour just wouldn’t come out off the brush. I was really sad, and still am because this is such a pretty colour and I was hoping to get many more uses! Has anyone else experienced the same?

After the 2nd use…

These are just some products that don’t work for me. I still really like these brands and will try more of their products in the future.

Current Favourite/ Fall Lip Colours

After all these years I finally figured my favourite lips colours are rosy/ nude pink. Sounds like everybody’s fav color, right? I’ve tried so many colours, orange, coral, red, bright pink, purple, dark… I found that sweet and girly makeups aren’t for me, and dark/ bright red colours make me look old in pictures. So neutral, darker, warmer pinks have become my go-to favourite. They compromise my skin tone and can go with so many different looks. Just recently I have gotten and played around with some new lip stuff. Let’s see if they’re your cup of tea.:)

First off let’s talk about how beautiful this  Hourglass lip stick is. It’s so elegant and unique. The colour I got is no one knows. On the website it says this is a “peachy pink.” It does have a tiny bit of peachy tone in it but only when you compare it to other nudes/ pinks. I really like the colour, however the consistency is not my favourite. Not sure if it’s just this colour, but I found that if I use it on top of some lip balm the colour kind of slides away. Even on its own I feel like it’s a little waxy and doesn’t go on smoothly. If I use my finger to smooth it out a little on my lips it looks perfect, but for this price I’d expect something more than this.

This Charlotte Tilbury lipstick packaging is again so elegant and beautiful. The colour is liv it up in the hot lips line. The colour is so much like no one knows on my lips, but without the peachy undertone. But this lip stick goes on more smoothly and the colour pay off is a tad better. I wish they had a long wear formula for it tho.

So M.A.C came out with this new lip collection last fall, called M.A.C Liptensity. It’s supposed to be limited edition but is still for sale. I have to be honest I was never a fan of M.A.C, not that I didn’t like their products, I just found other brands more appealing. But I regret not getting these lips sticks earlier.

TOAST AND BUTTER from M.A.C’s liptensity collection

The 2 colours I got were Driftwood and Toast and Butter. The first day I wore Toast and Butter I got so many compliments, even from guys (not my date/ bf/ dad, etc. etc.) which to be honest was totally out of my expectation. It’s a wearable brown and such a beautiful fall colour. Bonus is it’s so long wearing. I’m so in love.

Driftwood is a lighter cool nude pink. It doesn’t look like it in the picture, but it’s actually not that nude and is a little pink on the lips. It doesn’t give a bold statement like Toast and Butter. But you gotta be more careful with the overall look you want to archive and have the right colours for your eyes and cheeks, then you can archive a very cool look. Or else it could may you look a bit tired and sick.

The last product I want to talk about is Tarte’s quick dry matte lip paint. It’s my favourite matte lip product so far- great colour, goes on smoothly, dries fast but gives enough time to blend, but at the same time so comfortable to wear and isn’t drying. The colour I got was rosé, which is my absolute favourite rose nude. It is my go-to lip stick now when I don’t have a particular colour I want to wear.

I’d love to know what your fav lip products are and see if we share the same taste! Comment down below and please follow my new IG: https://www.instagram.com/rebilives/

Empties! Products I’ve Used Up

Hi guys! I’m back! I know I don’t update too often nor do I have the most amazing content, but I do put my heart into this blog and hope you guys keep checking it out once in a while!

Products I’ve used up!

So today I want to talk about the products I’ve used up in the last few months.

Petal Fresh Hair Rescue

Petal Fresh was introduced to me by a friend who works for the brand. It contains organic ingredients, no harmful chemicals such as silicon, parabens, GMO, and is eco-friendly. It also claims to reduce hair lose, strength and thicken hair.

When I first tested these products out, I really didn’t have high hopes- all products claim to make your hair shiny, healthy, blablablah… I didn’t notice any significant change until I was half way through the bottle. One day I suddenly noticed there was really less fall outs when I washed my hair and less breakage when I brushed it. I don’t expect it to multi-task, but I think this is a sign that my hair is getting healthier.

Will I repurchase? Already did.

Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pack

The Kiehl’s Olive Fruit Oil Deeply Repairative Hair Pack was a repurchase. It is the hair mask for dry, damaged, under-nourished hair in the Kiehl’s collection. I perm my hair and use heat on it a lot, so this mask is my daily hair conditioner. The way I use this mask or any conditioner is I shampoo my hair, rinse it, put this mask on evenly, focusing towards the ends, then I wash my face and other body parts before going back to rinse off the mask. So the mask stays on the hair for a good 2-3 minutes at least. It really softens and smoothens my hair.

Will I repurchase? Yes

The Body Shop British Rose Shower Gel

I have been using the Body Shop’s products on and off. Their stuff is alright, not great, but not bad either. I am a fan of rose and just had to get this British Rose Shower Gel (plus, it was on sale!) It had a nice natural rose scent (as some scents from the Body Shop are quite artificial to me,) did its job as a shower gel, but wasn’t enough capture my heart.

Will I repurchase? Maybe when it’s on sale again

John Masters Organics Rose Foaming Face Wash

The John Masters Organics Rose Foaming Face Wash was a product I came across online. It’s supposed to cleanse your face gently with natural ingredients e.g. rose flower oil, linden blossom, plantain and aloe vera gel. It was really nice and gentle and my skin loved it. It was a great fall/ winter product. However I feel like it’s not strong enough as a cleanser in the summer when my face gets sweaty and oily.
Rate: 4/5
Will I repurchase? Probably later in the fall, if there’s no new product I want to try.:)

BORGHESE Fango Active Mud Mask

I got the BORGHESE Fango Active Mud Mask because I encountered it at work. It is an Italian brand and this signature mask is to purify, hydrate and reduce fine lines. For some reason I just didn’t find myself reaching for it, maybe because of its thick consistency that made it hard to rinse off. I used it on my neck and and chest as well and did notice that my skin was a bit whiter and smoother after using it. However for its price I’d expect better results. It took me over a year to finish the 200g, I think it says something.
Rate: 2.5/5
Will I repurchase? Probably not

I’ve apparently used up more products than these in these couple months, but some empty bottles have gotten thrown away (mistakenly). Hope you guys enjoyed the review and let me know how you liked it!

Until next time. xx

Colorpop Fall Collection Haul (Love A Flare And More!)

I know, I know, I’m probably the last person to try out the Colorpop cosmetics but I finally did and I was so excited to order Love A Flare from the fall edit and a bunch of other stuff. So keep going and see if they’re something you’d like as well!:)

At the beginning I was a little hesitant because I wasn’t sure what I was gonna do with moonwalk, and the colours high rise and head hush looked a little similar to me. But I’m so glad I did because the colours are GORGEOUS. You can create so many day and night looks with them, they stay on and blend so easily. You probably already know, Colorpop’s eyeshadows have a moose consistency and dry to powder. So be careful when you apply if you’re new to makeup or not used to it, otherwise it could get a little messy.

Swatches top to bottom: MOONWALK, MELROSE, I SPY, BY MY SIDE, HIGH RISE, HEAD RUSH (I’m still quite tan from the summer…)

Off to the face and lips. I got 2 blushes- BARDOT and BIRTHDAY SUIT.

You can see that the colour payoff is awesome for BARDOT; for BIRTHDAY SUIT, not so much, which I’m a little disappointed (that’s like 3 swatches already in the picture.) The good news is, both colors stay on the cheeks through out the day.

They are not the same, but if I had to pick between the ultra satin lip and lippie stix, I’d definitely pick the lippies. If you haven’t heard enough good things about the Colorpop lippies, let me tell you, it’s probably the best lip sticks I’ve come across. I always have to have some lip balm on for any matte or semi matte finish lipsticks. But not for the Colorpop lippies. They are obviously not moisturizing, but they don’t not hang on or emphasize dry patches. I mean, I don’t know about other colors but I’ll definitely order more in the future. The ultra satin lip is not bad, it goes on the lips rather smoothly, but in comparison it does feel more drying.

Top: Ultra Satin Lip in November Bottom: Lippie Stix in LUMIERE, both from the Kathleen Lights collection

For the eyeliner, I feel like I’ll have to test it out more to give a fair review, but I’m liking it so far, I’ve wanted a bronzy brown for so long and this eyeliner color Mr. Bing, which is also from the Kathleen Lights collection (yes, you can tell she’s one of my favorite YouTubers,) has already stolen my heart.

Colorpop just came out with a Hello Kitty collection, and they are not offering free international shipping if you spend 50$ or more till the end of the year! Definitely go check it out if you’re a fan or haven’t already!

Hope you enjoyed! Until next time.

Review-Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipsticks

Let me just start by telling you how much I love these lipsticks. I was testing these out in Australia and could have included them in the last post, but I could not. These babies were just too good that I HAD to talk about them in a separate post.

I got the colour As You Want Victoria, and the next day I went pick up three more colours- In Love With Ginger, Notting Hill Nude and Woke Up Like This. This range claims to “moisturize lips without compromising on colour” and it really does what it says. It has outstanding colour payoff, is moisturizing and lasts a long time. I wouldn’t say it lasts all day, because you and I both know that no makeup actually lasts all day, but the colour really stays on for hours. With these babies I can even skip lip balm, and my lips look soft and moisturized.

Top to bottom: Woke Up Like This, Notting Hill Nude, In Love With Ginger, As You Want Victoria

The only con is that the colour transfers to everything that touches your lips. It could be a little bit of a hassle, but don’t ask me how, there’s still colour on your lips even after them being touched by a million objects.

I would say the formula is perfect for fall and winter, and if you’re looking for something moisturizing, bright and bold, but not overly glossy. The collection has a huge range of colours, go grab one if you haven’t already and I promise you’ll go back and get more!

Hope you enjoyed! Until next time.

Aussie’s Goodies- Beauty

I knew I was gonna buy some beauty and skincare products while in Australia, what I didn’t know was I would almost completely refill my makeup bag with new products. Because, well, I had forgotten to take my makeup bag with me. Technically, I could still survive with the minimal makeups I took with me on the plane- a cream foundation compact which I used for touchups only, a sample sized loose powder, a mini blush, an eyeliner and a sample sized mascara. But why would I let go of the chance for me to buy new makeups? (Thank God I had my skincare items and makeup brushes… who knows what would happen if I didn’t?)

A lot of these products were not new, they were just new to me and have stolen my heart since.

Hello Australia

The day after I finally quit my job, I hopped on a plane to Sydney.

Australia had been one of my favourite places and had given me one of the best memories ever since my first visit when I was 9, even though all that I could remember was the Sydney Opera House, the rainforest in Cairns, the stargazing, the hot air balloon, the koala bear I touched, whose fur wasn’t too soft, the aggressive pregnant kangaroo I fed, the breathtaking fireflies and the giant french fries. I knew that I had gotten under the water and witnessed the Great Barrier Reef (and tried catching a Nemo there,) I remembered getting on a helicopter, but the details had faded away. After all these years and with the vague memories, I was so excited and looking forward to the trip.

Australia did not disappoint me, she welcomed me with perfect spring weather, delicious food and a lot of warm smiles. Before getting into those, I have to confess that I did not do much planning beforehand, because all I wanted was relax and have a fun time visiting my sister, who’s studying there right now. However, if you are planning to visit Australia, and are usually a well planned tourist, the following tips may be helpful to you.

  1. Get the Visa
Unless you are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, you will need a visa to enter Australia. You can either get one at your nearest Australian Consulate; I got mine online. More information here.
  2. Ask the flight attendant for a ginger ale or ginger beer
I mean, you can’t be on a plane to Australia and be asking for some apple juice, right?
  3. Get the SIM card and your phone settled before you leave the airport
Okay this seems obvious, but no, because I made a huge mistake on it. My sister got me a SIM card at Coles, which gave me 10Gb of data (forgot about text and minute limits, but who really cares when you have data?) and was way cheaper than getting it in the provider store. But I needed to go to that provider to get a code to activate it and it might take up to 24 hours to work. Long story short, the card did not work. That was 2 days after I landed. Being so desperate and frustrated, I went into another provider which was more expensive and would only give 500mb (unlimited texting and calls, tho) for the same credits.
Moral of the story: don’t be penny wise and pound foolish.
  4. Look up the zoos
There are a lot of zoos in Australia. We went to the Taronga Zoo which was the city zoo in Sydney and it was a lot of fun. There were peacocks walking around and lizards chilling to greet you, and the emus would just go straight to your face for a selfie or a kiss. However, if you’re looking to feed a kangaroo or cuddle a koala bear, this might not be the best place to visit. You can get real close to a kangaroo, but you don’t get to feed it; you can get real close to a koala bear (with an extra charge,) but you don’t get to touch it. It is illegal to touch a koala bear in New South Wales. Unless you’re the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, otherwise you will have to visit Queensland, South Australia or West Australia for a real koala encounter.

    Hello there:)
  5. Pictures with the Opera House
Who goes to Sydney without visiting the Opera House? However, if you’re just looking for a nice picture with it (and the BridgeClimb), go to the northern shore of Sydney Harbour, where the Luna Park is. There is a lot less crowded, you get the same beautiful view and is way easier to capture the BridgeClimb and the Opera House together in one picture.

    I promise there’s no filter.
  6. No tipping necessary
Of course you can always be generous, but tipping is not necessary in Australia. There is a 10 per cent Goods & Service Tax (GST) when you shop and dine. However, unlike in the UK, this is not a service charge that goes toward the staff. So if you had a really nice hospitality, feel free to tip the server ~10 per cent of the bill.
  7. Shopping Thursday
A lot of malls in Sydney open seven days a week, but they typically close at around 6p.m., except on Thursdays. There’s a thing called “shopping Thursday,” which malls open until 9p.m. So if you want to go for a crazy shop, you know the days to go.
On a side note, you may be able to claim a refund on the GST if you spend AUD300 or more in one shop, no more than 30 days before departing Australia. You can check out the process here.
  8. Travel long distance on Sundays
If you’re traveling around NSW, get an opal card to hop on any public transportation. It offers you travel discounts, and only needs AUD2.5 to go anywhere on the entire Sunday.
  9. Drink up
Just a kind reminder that the drinking age is 18 in Australia.:) Wish I could be excited about it, but I have way passed this age…:(
  10. Relax and have a lot of fun
Australia is so multi-culture, you will see people from around the world and hear diverse accents. It is very slow paced and a great place to recharge your batteries. Just look…

I am very busy can’t you see?

Things I learn from Resigning from My First Long-Term Job

Yes I finally resigned. It’d been on my mind for a couple months before I finally decided, more accurately, had the guts to submit my resignation. It’s my first long-term job and I really liked it for a while. Resigning was a tough decision, but I’m glad I did and everyday I thank myself more for doing it. Looking back, I wasn’t happy in the past six months, felt so stressed and defeated; I don’t even know how I made it through and why I held on to it.

This is to record my lesson from this past few months, and also to show you that if you are having similar experiences or feelings at work, maybe it’s time to go.

  1. I am not happy.
When someone tells you, “no one is happy at work. Do you job and suck it up.” It is FALSE. That person is only trying to make you as sad as they are. Work takes up at least one-third of your time a day, how can you stand the unhappiness, the depression, the frustration for that long on a daily basis? If you’re unhappy, something is wrong.
  2. I try to be what they want me to be and it does not work.
So cliche but so true. When my supervisor told me that nobody liked working with me, I put really deep thoughts into it. I got defensive at first because I thought that was non-sense; then I got scared, I tried to compromise and please everyone. Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t compromise at all, sometimes you do need to put yourself down a bit and cope with people around you. But being someone that is not yourself is not the move. You will never ever make everyone happy, especially when they are unhappy to begin with.
  3. I doubt myself.
I was constantly being told that I was not capable enough, that all I did was shit. I was a senior executive but failed to even qualify as an assistant. I was so destroyed that I lost all the confidence and panicked over the tiniest things. I believed that I sucked. But seriously, why would I trust someone that’s so mean to me, that wanted nothing but destroy me, over myself? Please don’t do this to yourself. Believe yourself within reasons, and you’ll be queen.
  4. I lose focus. I am surviving, not living.
Everything we do it life, there’s a purpose. We work to make a living but there’s more than just “work” and “living”. It started to kill me physically and psychologically because I had no time for myself, for anyone or anything. My mind was all packed with work, with doubt, with wonder, with everything that did me no good. I knew I needed time off to figure things out, figure MYSELF out.

There are a lot of people I need to thank in the past 1.5 years. Every time I felt like dying inside, there were always little angels or encouragements of some sort that came up and kept me going. However, the person I want to thank most is myself. Thank you for being tough, thank you for holding on and trying so hard to make things work, thank you for giving yourself a chance and being brave enough to make changes, and good job on finding what you don’t like because that’s the first step of figuring yourself out.

If you have done your best and have no regret or guilt, and people still do not appreciate you, you need to be the first one to give yourself credits, then move on. You deserve better in life. It’s like a relationship, you love him, he loves you, then shit happens, but you stay because you think it’ll get better, it doesn’t. It’s hard to let go because you’re used to the usual practice and the comfort zone, even though it gives you no comfort, you still want to hang on. The world is so big, you have to look further in order to go further. I cannot wait till my last day at this job, not because I hate it (I don’t, I love the job itself,) but the freedom, relief and the chance to see the world.

Summer Outfit Ideas

I have a love-hate relationship with summer. I love the idea of sun, beach, breeze, shorts and tank tops… But the humidity and sweats kill me. Before each summer arrives I like to go grab a few new items to help put up with the weather and freshen up my closet (excuse, I know.)

Nothing says summer like open shoulder tops and pastel colours. So one thing I got was this cute top from Zara when I travelled to London two months ago.

Photo from Internet

At first I was a little hesitant because it looked a little too fancy and girly for me. But now I’ve worn it a couple times, I’m totally in LOVE. It makes me look put together and like I’ve spent time dressing up myself.

I pair it with a pair of light grey jeans from American Eagle (I got those a couple years ago, but I’m pretty sure you can still get them now) to go to work. On a side note, these skinny jeans are really comfy and always on trend, they are a great investment to add in the closet. For shoes, you can go casual with flats or a little dressy with heels.

FullSizeRender-2 (1)

On weekends I like to be causal and free and wear what I can’t at work. So I match the top with a pair of mid-waist jean shorts from Hollister (those were not new as well, but you can still get similar ones!) To look more summery I’m going with an orange Micro Moto Satchel from Rebecca Minkoff and a pair of wedges or sandals.

Don’t forget the accessories!

Hope you guys enjoyed! Happy shopping!
